1. (a) Draw an equivalent circuit model for a round-rotor (non-salient pole) synchronous generator and use it to derive an equation for the machines terminal voltage. Assume that the machine has negligible stator winding resistance [3 marks] (b) Sketch a phasor diagram for the case when the generator is supplying current at a lagging power-factor and use it to show that the power generated P (in pu) and the load angle 8 are related by E.V where Epu open-circuit voltage, Vpu terminal voltage and Xs synchronous reactance. pu [5 marks] A round-rotor synchronous generator has a synchronous reactance of Xs 0.9 pu. It is connected to an infinite busbar (V 1.020° pu) by two parallel transmission lines, each of reactance XL 0.6 pu. The machine is generating P 0.8 pu, with an excitation E1.5 pu. (c) () Find the generators load angle 8 and power-factor with respect to the infinite bus voltage. (i) If the machine continues to generate with P 0.8 pu and E 1.5 pu, and one of the lines is tripped out of circuit, find the generators load angle and power-factor. [12 marks]
