3. Use the diagram below to verify the Pythagorean Theorem. Begin with the right triangle whose leg lengths are a and b and whose hypotenuse has length c. The diagram below can be drawn by tracing four of the triangles in each corner of a larger square. Find the area of this shape in two different ways. First the shape is made up of 4 triangles, each of whose area is 1 ab, and the square in the middle whose side length is c. Second, the shape is a square whose side length is a+b. Set the two expressions equal to each other and show that a2+b2- c2.
