Melissa is piloting an airplane that is coming out of a vertical dive in a circular arc. Her upward acceleration at the bottom of the arc is 5.5g. Her mass is 59.0 kg. At the bottom of the arc the magnitude of the force exerted by the airplane seat on the pilot is about a. 3.76 kN b. 4.7 kN c. 3.50 kN d. 3.2 kN e. 0.549 kN.
My question is how did they get Fn= 6.5 mg. Where did the 6.5mg come from? can you please explain.
centripetal acceleration= ac= 5.5 g
let fn= magnitude of the force exerted by the airplane seat on the pilot
we have fn- mg= m ac
Fn- mg= m(5.5g)
Fn= 5.5 mg+mg
Fn= 6.5 mg
Fn= 6.5 (59)(9.8)
Fn=3758 N= 3.758 kN
so Fn= 3.76 kN .so option a is correct.
