A 50 mm diameter rod has been welded to a square plate and is to be fixed to a wall with 3 bolts of equal size. The rod is to support a 3 kN load at 310 mm from the wall. 300 100 3 KN Fixed to (i) Calculate the amount of preload per bolt required for the bracket to be held to the wall with a safety factor of 2, assuming a coefficient of friction, f 0.15 (ii) Calculate the maximum tensile force applied to a bolt resulting from the vertical load of 3 kN. (ii) Select a suitable sized Grade 5.8 bolt.
