Question details

Two annular pads, r 105 mm and r 140 mm, subtend an angle of 110, have a coefficient of friction of 0.37. It is required to provide a braking force of 4 kN at the outside diameter of the wheel of 800 mm diameter. For uniform wear: Mechanical Engineering Design, 9 Edition (2011) Budynas, R.G. and Nisbett, J.K. page 850 (i) Determine the braking torque required. (ii) What is the largest normal pressure on the surface on the disc pad? pad, what is the m allowable speed of the wheel in rpm?
