As shown below a beam is to be bolted to a mounting plate using two equal sizes bolts at locations A and B. The beam is to support a load F of 1.3 kN. 550 100 400 0 (i) Which bolt location will require the largest clamping force to hold the beam in place? (i) Calculate the amount of preload to be provided at bolt B for the bracket to be held to the mounting plate with a safety factor of 2. Assume a coefficient of friction, f 0.15 (i) Select a suitable sized Grade 4.8 bolt that would be used at both locations A and B. (5)
