Use the AISC Specification and A992 steel. Assume the column is located in a framethat is braced against side-sway. Use both the tables in the AISC codeaswell as the stress equations to determine the strength. Performthe necessary numerical calculations to show that the member is non- slender. Check all limit states. Question 2 Design a rectangular base plate for the W 18X130 column in Question 1, if A36 steel is used and the design compressive strength of concrete is assumed to be 5 ksi. Assume that the concrete footing has the dimensions 4 ft X 4ft. Use LRFD design methods only. Question 3 Determine the expected increase in column capacity based onthe AISC code if 10inch wide by 1 inch thick, A992 steel cover plates are added tothe flanges of the member selected in Question 1. Assume that each cover plate is attached with two rows of snug-tight bolts spaced at 6 inch intervals along the entire length of the W section. Use LRFD design methods.
