8,000 LBS (SNOW LOAD) 8X12 12-0 5.5 5.5 The timber shown below is standard dressed 8x12 Dense #1 Douglas Fir-Larch. This timber is supported on either end by standard dressed 6x6 posts also of Dense #1 Douglas Fir-Larch. Determine whether the beam is adequate in shear parallel to grain to resist the load shown. The beam will be subjected to dry service conditions (NLC.<19%), and the maximum sustained temperature is not expected to exceed 90 deg. F. The beam is not incised. Neglect the self-weight of the beam. Use Allowable Stress Design (ASD.) 1. 2. Determine whether the beam in problem #1 above is adequate in bending to resist the load shown. The beam will be subjected to dry service conditions (M.C.<19%), and the maximum sustained temperature is not expected to exceed 90 deg. F. The beam is not incised. Neglect the self-weight of the beam. Use Allowable Stress Design (ASD.) Determine the size factor, CF, ifthe beam in problem #1 above were a standard dressed 8x16 instead of a standard dressed 8x12 3.
