(5-22) The external walls of a building have an overall total area of 400 m. The walls have glass windows and wooden doors. The total area of the glass windows is 75 m2 and that for the doors is 5 m. The overall heat transfer coefficients of the wooden doors and the glass windows and are 3.5 and 5.6 W/m2-K, respectively. All walls have a cross section as shown. The inside and the outside convection heat transfer coefficients across the wall are 7.9 and 15.1 w/m*K, respectively. The inside and outside air temperatures are 20 and 3°c respectively. The density of concrete and plaster layers are 2,300 and 2,000 kg/m respectively while the thermal conductivity ofthe hollow blocks is 0.90 w/m.Κ. Calculate the followings: (a) Total heat loss rate through the walls, door, the glass windows, and due to infiltration (b) The percentage contribution of each heat loss to the total heat loss rate.
