A sand specimen was compacted in a direct shear device and loaded with a vertical stress of 150 kPa. Maximum shear force obtained at failure was 1 kN. The size of the shear box was 10 cm x 10 cm and thickness of the specimen was 2.5 cm. Please calculate the internal friction angle of the sand specimen 7. 8. A saturated clay specimen of 1.4 diameter was sheared in an unconfined compression device. Peak load at failure was measured as 20 lb at an axial strain of 2%. Please calculate the value of unconfined compression strength and undrained cohesion of the clay specimen You are conducting UU triaxial tests for two separate soil specimens identical to the samples explained in question #8. The confining stresses of 10 psi and 20 psi were applied to those specimens, separately. Please estimate the deviator stress at failure for both confining stresses 9. 10. A stability analysis was done for a sandy slope using the method of slice, and the following information was obtained. Σ(w cos α-U)s 1000 kN EL-200 m φ 350 YSina : 500 kN Please calculate the factor of safety of the slope.
