Initially one vessel contains a mixture of carbon monoxide at partial pressure Po and nitrogen at a partial pressure P - Po, while the other vessel contains nitrogen at a pressure P. The coefficient of diffusion of CO into N2, or N2 into CO is D. (a) Ficks law of diffusion can be written as dc Where J is the flux of molecules, C is the concentration of molecules, x is length along the tube and D is the coefficient of diffusion. Write an equation describing the rate of molecules passing through the tube [3 marks] (b) Now, given that the number of particles is conserved, calculate the partial pressure of CO in the first vessel as a function of time [7 marks] For water at 27°c, ( Cp-4190丿. kg-1K-1. Find the change of temperature in a large body of water carried by a current to a depth of 1 km (You may assume the passage of the water from surface ,0.0013 deg1 and 27°C to 1km is adiabatic and that cp remains constant) XEC [10 marks]
