McGraw-Hill Connect® is a digital teaching and learning environment that improves performance over a variety of critical outcomes; it is easy to use; and it is proven effective.

Employment Relations is the market-leading text for the most up-to-date coverage and analysis of legislation, theory, and contemporary issues related to the Australian system.

In this extensively updated third edition a brand new chapter recognises the peculiarities of Australia's modern employment relations laws, it analyses the traditional concept of collective bargaining in the broader context of collective agreement making. Chapter 10 now combines two topics rarely analysed in other employment relations texts: managerial unilateralism and individual contracting. Both provide compelling examples as well as continuing contested arenas of practice under the Fair Work Act 2009. The impact of Fair Work Act is thoroughly documented including the expansion of statutory regulation in the areas of minimum employment standards, equal employment, unfair dismissal, and occupational health and safety.

This third edition is more accessible than ever with enhanced navigation, clearer language, and new marginal definitions for technical terms. Students are encouraged to relate theory to real life and apply theory for deeper understanding and critical thinking with a range of new and updated features including Problem-Based Learning Cases, Work Stories, and ER News. Students can also test their knowledge of core concepts online using chapter quizzes that provide immediate feedback.

As recognition for the inclusion of the all-new feature of PBL Cases in the new edition, read about Dr Johanna Macneil’s recent award:

Co-author of Employment Relations 3e, Dr Johanna Macneil, was presented an Australian Award for Teaching Excellence in a ceremony in the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra in December 2014. This recognition is premised on her pioneering work on the use of problem-based learning (PBL) in Human Resource Management (HRM) and Employment Relations (ER) education in Australia. The use of PBL was introduced for the first time in the 3rd edition of Employment Relations in the form of PBL cases and this inclusion has benefitted from the vast experience Johanna has in this field. She has been recognised for developing curriculum, resources, and real world assessments to support the successful use of PBL by students and colleagues, and facilitating excellent student outcomes. Johanna has been a faculty and university leader at The University of Newcastle in teaching and learning scholarship, designing and implementing good policy and practice in PBL and in the design of capstone courses, developing learning resources for use across Australia, and achieving consistently high levels of student satisfaction with her teaching.
