The Children's Experiences Folio: Developmentally Appropriate Experiences 0-6 Years
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, RMIT
This folio of developmentally appropriate children's experiences is designed for students of child care studies courses and staff in child care centres. The central theme of the book is the need to understand child development in order to successfully plan relevant and valuable programmes. Each of the experiences is informed by the authors' knowledge of child development, their experience in caring for children, the importance of using environmentally friendly materials, the need for both indoor and outdoor experiences, and a strong focus on the encouragement of play. Eighteen children's experiences are covered, in the form of charts. The relevant aspects of child development are noted in each age from 0-6, and information on what resources should be provided and how the experiences should be set up for each developmental level is given. The role of the adult and the value of the experience to the child are explained. It uses full-colour photographs in order to reinforce the ideas raised in the text.
