The first four chapters cover basic principles and considerations relating to traffic, road-user and vehicle characteristics, basic design criteria, road capacity and other relevant design considerations. The remaining nine chapters then discuss in some detail the design of specific road facilities, namely pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities, undivided rural roads, undivided urban roads, divided urban roads, intersections and interchanges. These chapters have a strong practical orientation and reflect the author's experience in the area.
