Economic and monetary union was achieved between 11 Member States of the EU in 1999. This new edition fully reflects the legal consequences of this development. It looks at it in the context of the continuing development of the single market for financial services within the whole of the EU. Particular issues examined include taxation as a barrier to market integration in the EU, and the consequences of the fact that four Member States (including the UK) do not participate in economic and monetary union.
